Vilas County Sheriff's Office

Civil Process:

The Vilas County Sheriff's Office is responsible for all civil processes in the county. The processes include civil process papers for any evictions, small claims, court notices, court appearances, foreclosures, and any other civil action that requires verifiable notification of a party involved. The Civil Process Division is also in charge of all Sheriff's sales as well as any open records requests.

*PLEASE NOTE that we cannot serve to a PO Box. You must supply a physical address for service. 

• Paper service: $75 each person served, prepayment required.

• Evictions: $75 per eviction, prepayment required. 

• Sheriff Sales: $150 each sale, nonrefundable, prepayment required.

  • All sales are held on Thursday's at 2 PM.

Records Requests:

The Records Division walk up window is open from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays).
 

Procedure to request records:

Telephone requests may be made during normal business hours to (715) 479-0613.

• Each requester shall reasonably describe the type of record or information requested.

• Records requests will be fulfilled as soon as practicable and without delay.

You may also request by email: records@vilascountywi.gov. Please include the following with your request:

• Your name/organization

• Address 

• Phone number

• BE SPECIFIC and include as much detail as possible regarding the records you are requesting. (Ex. case number, date/date range, images, etc)

• How will you receive the records? Pick up, mail, email...​​

• NOTE that requests are filled in submitted order and a fee payment is required prior to completion.

Fees for Records:​

• Record Search Fee: $5.00 payment required, submitted with your request. 

• Incident Report Fee: $5.00 payment required, submitted with your request. If the report exceeds 12

                                      pages in length, an additional charge of $0.25 per page will be billed to you. 

• CD/DVD's: $10.00 each, payment required submitted with your request.

• Thumb Drive: $20.00 each, payment required submitted with your request.

• Audio/Digital Evidence: Redaction / Hourly rate of pay for researcher. 

• CAD Call: $0.25 per call, payment required submitted with your request.

In addition to the above, there may be a fee for locating a record. It will not exceed the actual, necessary and direct cost of location, but based upon the cost of the time of the person who locates the record. This will apply only if the cost of location is $50.00 or more. "Locating" a record means finding it by searching, examining, redacting, or reproduction.

Pursuant to Wis. Stat 19.35(3) (f), a pre-payment will be required for reproduction costs if the total is $5.00 or more.

NOTE: Certain records maintained by the Vilas County Sheriff's Office are considered "EXEMPT FROM DISCLOSURE". If exempt records are requested, the requestor will be advised of the same and the basis for the denial of access. Records exempt from disclosure would include reports which are still under investigation or haven't been through the court system and certain employee personnel records. Juvenile information is not released by the Vilas County Sheriff's Office. This information will be blocked out on the record before being released.

Request for access, copies, or information may be presented either verbally or in writing. The request must be reasonably specific to aide in the location of the requested records. Some records request may require additional time to research.

Alarms:

For alarm payments, please use the online payment below. You will be asked to compete the form prior to payment.
